Spokeswoman of the Swiss Prosecutor says Hailemedhin’s “human rights will be respected”

Jeanette Balmer, spokeswoman of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office of Switzerland, said Switzerland is known for protecting human rights and the human rights of co-pilot
Hailemedhin Abera, the suspected hijacker of Ethiopian airlines plane, will be protected but refused to give any detail regarding his case before the investigation was completed.
Hailemedhin has been offered a solicitor and is under investigation by Swiss police. Asked if it was possible to follow Hailemedhin’s court proceedings, Balmer said although it is not
possible to speak about the court at this time, normally, court proceedings in Switzerland are often open.
Asked if Hailemedhin’s next court appointment was known, she said “we have not yet reached that stage.” The Spokeswoman said the Swiss justice system instructs that
information is kept secret thus no information can be given regarding that.
Meanwhile, the Swiss Support Committee of the Democratic Change in Ethiopia (DCE) has
announced that there will be a demonstration on February 28, 2014 in Bern, Switzerland,
calling Switzerland to give a political asylum to co-pilot Hailemedhin Abera.
